What Is Erasmus+?
Erasmus+ is the European Union’s flagship program supporting education, training, youth, and sport. It aims to enhance the quality of education, promote international cooperation, strengthen institutional capacity, and create opportunities for individuals to gain valuable learning and professional experiences across borders.
Through international mobility and cooperation projects, Erasmus+ enables students, academic staff, and administrative professionals to engage with institutions in other countries, exchange knowledge and expertise, develop new skills, and establish lasting academic and professional networks. The program also supports participating institutions in improving teaching and learning practices, developing innovative approaches, strengthening research-related cooperation, and promoting intercultural understanding and international engagement.
Erasmus+ at Oman College of Health Sciences (OCHS)
At the Oman College of Health Sciences (OCHS), Erasmus+ represents an important opportunity to advance the College’s internationalization objectives, strengthen institutional partnerships, and enhance the quality of health sciences education through international academic exchange.
By collaborating with eligible European higher education institutions and other participating partners, OCHS seeks to create opportunities for students and staff to gain international exposure, share professional expertise, and learn from different educational systems and healthcare practices.
Erasmus+ mobility can contribute to the College’s strategic priorities through:
International Mobility Enabling students and staff to participate in study, teaching, training, and professional development activities abroad. | Academic and Professional Development Supporting the exchange of teaching methods, clinical practices, administrative expertise, and institutional best practices. | Institutional Partnerships Building sustainable relationships with international universities and strengthening cooperation in health sciences education. |
Knowledge and Experience Exchange Providing opportunities to learn from international approaches to nursing, pharmacy, medical imaging, medical laboratory sciences, physiotherapy, health information management, and other relevant fields. | Internationalization and Global Engagement Enhancing the College’s international profile, promoting intercultural understanding, and expanding its engagement with the global higher education community. | Capacity Building and Future Collaboration Establishing a foundation for further academic cooperation, joint initiatives, curriculum development, and research collaboration where mutually agreed and supported by the relevant funding arrangements. |
Through these opportunities, OCHS aims to develop graduates and professionals who are internationally aware, adaptable, and equipped to contribute to the development of healthcare education and services in the Sultanate of Oman.
Building International Partnerships through Erasmus+
Erasmus+ is more than an individual mobility program; it is also a platform for developing lasting institutional relationships. Through collaboration with international partners, OCHS can explore shared academic priorities, exchange professional expertise, and identify opportunities for further cooperation in health sciences education and related fields.
The OCHS welcomes engagement with eligible partner institutions interested in developing mutually beneficial mobility arrangements and strengthening international academic cooperation.

About Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM)
International Credit Mobility (ICM), commonly associated with Key Action 1 (KA171) under Erasmus+, supports international mobility between eligible European higher education institutions and partner institutions in non-associated countries, subject to the program rules and approved project arrangements.
Under ICM, students and staff can undertake a period of study, teaching, or training at a partner institution abroad. The mobility is intended to provide a structured international learning or professional development experience while maintaining a connection with the participant’s home institution.
For students, the mobility period may contribute to their academic program, subject to prior approval and the applicable learning agreement and credit-recognition arrangements. For staff, mobility provides opportunities to exchange expertise, strengthen professional competencies, and develop collaborative relationships with colleagues at the receiving institution.
Oman may participate as a non-associated partner country (from region 7 along with other GCC and Iran, Yemen & Iraq) where the relevant Erasmus+ action, funding call, institutional partnership, and approved project arrangements permit such participation. Mobility opportunities are therefore dependent on the applicable call conditions, available funding, and agreements between participating institutions.
Types of Mobility via ICM
Erasmus+ ICM may support the following types of mobility, depending on the approved project and the arrangements between partner institutions:
Student Mobility for Studies Eligible students may undertake a period of study at a partner university abroad. The study program and expected learning outcomes are agreed upon in advance, with academic recognition subject to the relevant institutional procedures. | Staff Mobility for Teaching Academic staff may deliver lectures, participate in teaching activities, exchange educational practices, and collaborate with colleagues at the receiving institution. Teaching mobility is subject to the applicable program requirements and the approved mobility arrangements. | Staff Mobility for Training Academic and administrative staff may participate in structured training activities, job shadowing, workshops, professional development program, and the exchange of administrative or technical expertise. Activities must align with the approved mobility objectives and the receiving institution’s arrangements. |
The availability of each mobility category, including the eligible participant groups, duration, and funding, depends on the specific Erasmus+ call and approved project.
Funding and Financial Support
Erasmus+ ICM projects generally provide financial support to eligible participants in accordance with the applicable program rules and the approved project arrangements. Support may include a contribution towards travel costs and individual subsistence during the mobility period.
The availability and amount of financial support depend on factors such as the mobility type, destination, duration, applicable funding rates, and the conditions of the approved project. Applicants should carefully review the financial information provided in each announcement. They should not assume that all expenses will be covered or that the same funding arrangements apply to every mobility opportunity.
